(Matt’s Dad) I spent eleven years in school, that is, after high school. In fact I only discovered what I wanted to be near the end of that eleven years: An Heir. I wanted to be an heir, but my parents didn’t really have any money to give me and no one I talked to had heard of any more schools for this profession.
So I married well. She likes to work, and I like her to be happy.
And now I think it’s fine if you give them the chance to assign you a stereotype. If you can live up to some of their expectations, you get to live down to others.
So we tell a ribald joke and let smiles split our faces. The shout laughers crack the air with their joy and we push each dish of ice cream across the round table. Each of us gets something from each of our friends; this is why we live (sharing). My wife leans in to tell me, this is why we give our children meningitis shots (sharing).
